Hi, my name is Mariana Diez, I am the owner of Olivine, a beauty concept store in Mexico. My journey in beauty started with the goal of finding a natural deodorant. Every time I went to the United States, I’d buy deodorant because we didn’t had any options here in Mexico that were effective, clean and without aluminum.
I’ve been working in beauty for the last ten years. It was quite a journey, and Olivine has become a place to find natural products. However, once I opened, our mission shifted and now we focus more on niche beauty and luxury. It doesn’t need to be 100% natural. What we really look at is performance and good, innovative formulas.
What are some of your favorite self-care rituals?
My day-to-day self-care rituals include a pilates class in the morning and a relaxing skincare routine at night. Between raising two girls and managing Olivine, my days tend to be pretty busy and somewhat chaotic, but I always find the time for these two things.
What is your beauty philosophy?
Less is more. I always test the brands before we become a potential stockist, so my vanity is often full of new products and I love this part of the process of selection. However, I tend to keep my everyday skincare routine simple because throughout the years I have come to get to know my skin very well and learnt that it doesn’t need a lot to be at its best.
Describe your perfect day off?
My perfect day off is any day spent with my family and friends, with my phone off and preferably away from the city and the noise. It’s so relaxing and a good way for me to charge my mental battery for busy days ahead.
How has your role changed throughout your journey?
Olivine started as a one-woman show and today we are a team of five. I’m in charge of selecting the brands on our shelves, stocking and overseeing everything else that is going on on a daily basis, from logistics to making sure everything is on point in our virtual space as well as our showroom in Mexico City.
Favorite part of your role?
I could say my favorite part is constantly learning about the industry and discovering new formulas and brands. I truly enjoy exploring everything that is out there in the world of beauty and I love the challenge of bringing these brands to our market.
What is your most exciting career moment for yourself or your business?
The opening of our physical space back in 2022. I had always dreamed of a beautiful space for my business and this dream came true with the inauguration of our showroom in a gorgeous mid-century house in Polanco, Mexico City.
Favorite AUTEUR product for yourself at the moment?
The Definitive Retinol Serum. My skin seems to be a fan of the ingredient and this one just goes so well with it. I have noticed some really nice changes since I started using it.
